a taste of rain portrait

9 1/2" by 8 1/2" daily pastel painting
This is a painting of my son Jesse when he was 3 years old (quite a long time ago).
When the kids were small we used to take rain walks and pajama walks. At the time we were living on the eastern end of Long Island, NY. My "kids" say that those years were magical. I tend to agree with them.
He was taking a pause to catch the rain.

the woods

10 1/2" by 9" daily pastel painting, unframed
This composition was inspired by one of my sons who spends a lot of time hiking in the woods with his dog and feels at one there. I doubt he runs around unclothed ;-)

under the jet trails

7" by 5" daily pastel painting, unframed
Just a simple little tree. Admittedly not my best work but I"m trying to post more often. This was a quick piece I worked on this morning during breaks of working from an old photo of my son when he was 3 years old in the rain. It's been raining for days here in New England. Much needed!

sunday drive

15 x 20 pastel painting
commission
This is a commissioned painting. My customer asked for one similar to this one.
Since I will not paint the same painting twice I changed the composition and the style a bit.
I had fun working on this piece.
Be sure to bookmark my blog of larger paintings if you are interested.
I will be posting more large works soon!

scopophilia

I will not be posting for a few days. I'm working on a commissioned painting and finishing up a larger one also. This is an example of a surreal "sketch" for the next large painting.
My process starts with a concept (this one was inspired by Ron Mueck) and then gathering the right digital photos from my collection. When I have all the photos I need for reference I open them up in Photoshop and begin my "sketch".
Sometimes the process of creating the digital image is more fun than painting it.

roadside cottages
10" x 3 1/2" daily pastel painting, unframed
These were once along a beach road on the eastern end of Long Island where I lived many years ago. Somehow I doubt they are still there because they were quite weathered at the time. I used an old pen and ink drawing of mine as a reference for the scene. I thought I'd keep it simple. I am frequently drawn to simplicity and repetitive patterns which can be seen in my older work.

When I'm driving I frequently become mezmorized by them and wonder if anyone else on the road is as distracted as I am by their beauty.
