taos church

taos church daily pastel painting 12" by 9" daily pastel painting, unframed
painted on pastelboard

I believe this is the San Francisco de Asis church in Taos, the one Georgia O'Keeffe painted. The last time I was in New Mexico was 7 years ago and we drove through Taos and Santa Fe rather quickly getting a few shots of the local sights.
I'm still working on my travel palette.

I'll be leaving for New Mexico in less than a week!

New Mexico padernal

New Mexico padernal daily pastel painting
5" by 7" daily pastel painting, unframed
painted on clayboard

I've been putting together a limited palette for my upcoming trip. My subjects for the next few days will be the New Mexico landscape since that's where I'll be painting plein air. I should be able to choose a decent palette by painting some southwest scenes before I go.

I used 12 pastel sticks for this painting. I started out with 6 but needed more. By the time I finish with my experiment I should have all the colors I need for the trip.

fields of lavender

lavender fields daily pastel painting 5" by 3" daily pastel painting, unframed
painted on clayboard

For those of you who have been reading my blog I'm happy to write that things have quieted down at home. My father is back from the hospital and recovering quite well considering his age - 93.

I now have more time for painting again.

I'll be leaving for my New Mexico painting trip in three weeks! If you would like to keep track of my trip here's the link to the blog which my sister and I will be updating.
I went to the art supply store today and purchased various sizes of boards to paint on. Today's painting is a test of the boards. I'll be working on a looser style for the next few weeks. That should allow me to paint quicker when I'm away.
I think this piece worked out quite well so I will be working mostly on boards in New Mexico. Now I need to figure out the best way to pack my supplies for traveling.
